That little piper indicates the actual direction of travel. Meaning that the gunsight shows the direction the nose is pointing while the piper shows which direction the plane is flying in. This is useful for several things, a slip indicator, shows angle of attack, it's very useful for carrier landings.

The little circle and pipper serve as slip/ball indicator.

I would really like to see this in "cockpit views". I rarely fly the HUD.

Also, it would sure be nice to have a digital readout placed over instruments in "cockpit views" of airspeed, altitude, heading.

Slip and ball are really needed for best targeting. That makes flying the P51 where the slip and ball is up high next to target reticle very effective.

I don't know if the circle and pipper can be put into the "cockpit" target reticle, just a suggestion.
