Hey there everyone!
First of all a big thank you for the efforts put into this game by the modders. Having struggled with fixing the Ship Pack 2 problem, I can all the more appreciate the work necessary on their part to get these beautiful mods to run and the problems they have to solve. As such I am amazed that the mods usually DO work.
Ok, having said this, here is the situation I faced and how I solved it, based in no small part on the advice given on this board. I am just trying to rephrase in a more comprehensive way what I read here and interpreted with some trouble into the correct approach (for my particular, but seemingly not uncommon problem). Here it goes:
I) Starting situation:
Fresh Installation of 1946 with 4.08 patch
added basic mods of the Unified installer
added ShipPack2
added .ini files from the ShipPack2 to MODS\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects (note, I did not have any besides the air.ini there, so a merge was neither possible nor necessary).
II) Initial problem:
Games loads to 70%, then crashes to desktop (sounds familiar if you are reading this thread?)
III) Cause (Assumption on my part and from what I read here)
A conflict with the .ini files in MODS\Static_AC\com\maddox\il2\objects
IV) Solution (Worked for me in this precise case, might not if you are starting from a different installation
Downloaded Winmerge http://www.winmerge.org/ and installed it
Started Winmerge, opened MODS\Static_AC\com\maddox\il2\objects\technics.ini and
MODS\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects\technics.ini and let the program merge them
into MODS\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects\technics.ini (careful, one exception, do not merge
the difference in the end, the missing ship related entries in the MOD\Static_AC file or it will delete
them).
repeat with the stationary.ini files
At this point, the ini files in STD should have all the entries from those in Static_AC
Check this by searching for the Spit Mk1 or the Beau Mk10 in the STD files
Finally, delete (AFTER BACKING THEM UP!!) the technics.ini and the stationary.ini file in
MODS\Static_AC
Check if this worked by starting IL-2 and checking in the Full Mission Builder if you can see the
Spit Mk1 under View -> Objects -> Stationary Aircraft
I hope this was helpful and if anyone of the more experienced user can give additional insights or correct anything I said, please do so, this was mostly the result of trial and error.
