Yes, it's historically possible, probably everyone (or almost everyone 
) have heard a story about F-15 which safely returned home without a wing. But do things like that took place in WWII?
The answer is YES, here's a proof of that, TBF Avenger deprived of large wing part is caught on photo flying low over ocean - notice how pilot handle plane's stick to keep aircraft on course (im curious how hard was that, without all those fly-by-wire systems :?
