Yes, when bullets hit and ricochet, they are not even near same velocity as the moment they're fired - the same is true for the gatling (new gun or not)!
It's the amount of bullets fired and repeadetly hitting the target, that makes the difference between a gatling and another gun (so many hits make a hell of an impact).

Watch how slow the bullets travel, after having hit anything on the ground - so I'm with CONAN in this...
