Reflected, I always set some sort of mission goal because it makes the campaign more interesting, even if that is just landing back at base or passing a certain area in the game. The trick with completing the mission is to uncheck the instant success option before starting the campaign, this way you move on to the next mission even if the goals are not achieved. This works as long as you are not shot down over enemy lines, in which case you will have to fly the mission again. Hope this helps.
