Setting a Recon/Landing icon at the homebase is my preference.
In real life the most valuable asset was the pilot.
For the pilot, arriving back home, alive, was "Mission Complete".
For the planners, you could obliterate the target but once they saw the recon photos they would send you back because you missed a truck on the corner. Not really but it must have felt like that to some pilots.
