Open your conf.ini file in the root directory of 46. Scroll down to the sound section and make sure that you have a line that says:
sounduse=1
I have had this problem as well, something occasionally turns the .ini line to : sounduse=0
I have no idea what causes it but it is very frustrating. I have found that copying from an older conf.ini or seperate version of the conf.ini which I have on another HDD sometimes cures it, sometimes not
