This is especialy usefull when playing online and on full real servers. People with decent soundcards and headphones can accurately hear when someone is on their six (me included 
).
If anyone goes forward with this mod, it might be interpreted as a cheat to some.
Although, I'd like to see it.
Plus, there are ways of setting your sound to acctually hear only your plane. You need to play around with sound settings.
B-25s were the loudest planes one can fly in. Pilots which flew over 75 missions in them ended up with busted hearing afterwards. All because of those two powerful radials placed very near the cockpit...

I've had the opportunity to fly in a B-17G and a B-25J and I can tell you that the engine noise is absolutely overwhelming (especially in the B-25) and without an intercom system using headphones and microphone a conversation is more like a shouting match.
