The golden rule is ensure you only have one copy of each file type in your install.
So only one copy of each *.ini file. *.properties and buttons. These are the ones causing most problems.
In my opinion these files should be installed in the appropriate sub directory in root/MODS/STD
Some older installers put them in different locations, root/files for example.
Aircraft mods from other sites may not be compatible with AAA mods (eg Mohawk)
Before you do an install open up the self installer using Winrar and look to see what it is going to install. You can check to see if any existing files will be overwritten before installing.
If you want to merge different copies of the same ini file use WinMerge or SwiftCompare.
Its quicker and more reliable than doing it manually.
