Could somebody telll me how to install the early Spitfire MKIX please, I tried with placing it in the mods folder but I don't see the plane showing up in the game.

I have it working fine in my MODS folder.
I wonder if you re-installed the latest aircraft installer and/or mod activator and ensured it was pointing to the sound mod you have.

Alternately, you might also try and place the contents of the 3do folder located in the Spitfire9_ early folder directly into files/3do folder and remove the Spitfire9_folder from the MODS folder.

Just a thought.
