When using a plane with marking on, if I want to fly an axis plane but with US markings it always show the old US star without the stripes on the side. EG, I wanted to fly the GO-299 as if it was Northrops experimental plane but if I switch to US markings it shows the old star. Is there a mod anywhere to change it to the US star with the bar/stripes at the side?

The easiest method is to create a skin with the markings you want, especially if those markings are American. IL-2 doesn't handle the US marking system well, especially from the time the "Star-n-bar" insignia were introduced, but also including earlier Star only markings where the star is only displayed on the top-left and bottom-right wings. IL-2 will display those insignia in all positions.

All American aircraft skins with the star and bar insignia have those insignia on the skins themselves, not as .tga + .mat files. No need for a mod, just a need to open your favorite paint program and create what you want. Search through some of the more prolific skins warehouses (Mission 4 Today, Flying Legends, etc., etc.) first... in case someone else has already created the skin you want to use.
