I like the idea of animated oil blotches. Perhaps after that you could find a way to add blood spatter to all planes?

In game blood color is better than in this youtube video ,
the very first small blood drop beginning on the right
cockpit glass if you look closely is barely seen here
followed by bigger splatter all over inside the cockpit ! ouch !
