P-51D5NT no dorsal fin mod Beta
#32

This mod is to simulate the D-Day Mustang's used by the USAAF. The first model of bubble topped Mustangs (the P51D-5) were built without the dorsal fin and flew this way at D-Day and in the months afterwards. From the D-10 onwards, the dorsal fin incorporated at the factory. Most D-5's (and some P51B's!!) were later retrofitted with the dorsal fin in the field.

Many of the most famous Mustangs were D-5's without the fin.

George Preddy was the Top Mustang Ace. His most famous aircraft was P-51D-5-NA, SN: 44-13321 "CRIPES A` MIGHTY 3rd" in which he scored 6 confirmed kills on 6th August 44. It was a dorsal finless early model

I hope this clears things up
