This is Pre-Nuclear Era, Tanks aren't built to withstand nukes here, because they're unheard of except for some of the highest ranking officials and top-secret programs... American tanks are built to hold up against bazookas, and protect from guns, while german tanks are built to protect from guns, and hold against bazookas and tank bullets. NOT nukes, the armor on a WWII tank, to my knowledge, would not protect from a shockwave. Which is what turns their brains to jelly. Post-Nuclear era, mabye they are, to withstand a nuke in close proximity.
