Please go ahead... Malta bing so isolated, i guess polishing the planes was not important, and the planes looked pretty crappy, beat-up and worn out after a while. Swapping aierlons, swapping engine owlings or entire wings... i say why not!

that would be a challenge to reflect on a skin, and i for one would welcome that!

The reasoning for the very poor state of repair was due soley to the intense air activity needed to defend Malta from constant Luftwaffe and ITA raids.
After the 'seige' a more normal state returned, allowing the A/C to be cleaned and repaired at a more relaxed pace.
