I think that for many, if not most, of the aircraft in Il2 there is very limited, or no, mixture control, even with complex engine management.
Try it with the Buffalo or one of the Russian planes- these have full mixture control. Planes like the Spitfire or the P 51 do not. Many others such as the US Navy Fighters only have the option to use full rich (110%) or auto rich (100%). You cannot for example "lean out" the engine on the F4U to shut it down.
