The Spanish Civil War remains an obsession I suppose. I tried making some new textures that would simulate more or less the apocryphal red earth landscape of Spain. Naturally there are all sorts of landscapes in Spain, ranging from forest greens, to flat sand coloring and everything in between. But still - it's the atmosphere and feeling that sometimes counts for more ... so I tried to get dark browns and red earth coloring in, without going overboard and still trying to show cultivated fields that do have to produce green colored crops of one sort or another.

Anyway, I used the old dlc SpainSW map to try the textures out. The map is the only one that I ever found featuring Spain. It is sadly with only 2 towns and airfields, no roads or railroads, no other villages or towns or such. So as a map of Spain, it is a bit incomplete, but that's how it goes. The geography of the map on the other hand is very nicely done, with lots of mountain ranges, hills and valleys.

I tried a number of variations using new textures I made from satellite images and here are a few results, just to hear the opinion of others. Most screen shots are at dawn or dusk - a very colorful time of day. The aircraft in the shots are of no importance.

Maybe it might be an idea to continue work on this map, by adding cities, towns, roads and airfields? The map could be a little gem in the rough, just awaiting polishing.
