RTFM is another little-known solution...if you look in your game folder for a file called ReadmePF.rtf, this is a compilation of readme files, up to the time of release of the DVD version of 1946.

While not completely up to date any more, it contains a wealth of information about the game, and addresses the majority of these sorts of "How do I..." questions.
