I was wrong. The XF-88 sucked miserably... Long live the Sabre...
The production P-86A-1-NA was flying in March 1948. Two months later it became the F-86A-1NA. In December, the engine was improved making the F-86A-5-NA. In comparison, the range of the Sabre was 1,200mi and the Voodoo was 1,737mi. Does anyone know of a good late WWII/early Korea American or British super long range fighter as in +2,000mi. The XP-61F had the range wasn't all that fast. The XP-83 failed miserably. The F-82 didn't have that great of range and wasn't fast enough to keep off the newer jets. The XP-81 never go the engine it needed. The Meteor earned it's name of the "meatbox" and the Vampire was amazing for everything but range. The F-101 came too late, after Korea.
