I hope somebody can help with this one - I had a nice setup of 1946 plus mod (no betas) installed on my PC running Vista Home Premium (SP1) 64 bit. This I copied from my old XP machine rather than installing from the DVD. It worked fine. On downloading the Spitfire XIV I could not get it to run so decided to uninstall and reinstall from the DVD. I have installed it into its own folder on C (C:/Il2newinstall), have expanded the permissions so all users should be able to access it and installed it in XP SP2 compatibility mode. It appears to install correctly but the icon on the desktop shows the generic windows dots thing (no idea what it is really called) rather than the IL2 symbol. When I click on the shortcut or the exe file in C:/Il2newinstall I get a revolving disc icon for a while and nothing happens. The shortcut path seems to be correct so it is pointing to the right place. I have done an extensive trawl here and on the Ubi site and although I find huge problems with running the game on Vista nobody seems to have experienced this particular one. My general opinion of Vista is certainly not printable here but I would be most grateful for any help. I have not reinstalled my original XP version which I will try as a last resort if nobody can help. Of course Vista may now be so stuffed up by my many unsuccessful installs that it might not work either.
