I just upgraded from an amd 2.4 with 1.5gb ram and a 6800 - and like you, with only a few aircraft in the air I could get it running quite smooothly on 'perfect' offline. but as I spend most of my time on IL2 online those settings were impractical and tuned it down to 'excellent' due to horrible frame rates. You should notice a difference adding some more ram, but in my experience with a similar setup perfect graphics are beyond what you can acheive with your setup.
