I just discovered this same issue today. Did a quick search of previous posts, and this one is exactly the same as I am seeing. I am running a new super rig with i7 950 quad core, 12 gb ram, nivida gtx 295, Vista Ultimate and my normal FPS is around 100 for nearly all conditions. However, when I view high flying contrails my FPS drops down to under 10. Usually around 5 to 7 FPS!! Seems like some sort of defect or something given the radical loss in FPS. I have all the graphics settings at max.
When I look away from the contrails, fps skyrockets to 150+ but when I look back at the planes with contrails, it drops to around 6 or 7! I was flying Biggin Hill Mission 5 (I believe) which was the escort off the Isle of Wight. Its the first high altitude mission where contrails are displayed.
Interested if there is a fix or if other are experiencing this one.
