My suggestion is to apply the sound setting Jafa uses. It is contained in the conf.ini he posted inside his UI 1.1 soundmods: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=9264 ... 92345876a0
I did it and it works wonders. Before I had indeed this loud distorted sound but basically as mentioned before turning off all hardware extensions is one good part of obtaining the true Jafa sound....and by the way you don't loose anything as the old Il2 machine doesn't use all those fancy EAX 3.0 , CMS surround sound and other toys. Tuning down the number of channels to 16 as mentioned in Jafa's conf.ini helps a lot too.
Once again, many thanks to Jafa for those great soundmods (try the others too not only the 109!)
