My original request was based on the (apparently incorrect) belief that the original IL2 featured a first-person bale-out view. I figured that if the code is already hidden away in the game then switching it on might be as simple as changing a 1 to a 0 somewhere. But it seems that IL2 had no such feature, in which case I agree that trying to make this mod would probably be a waste of time.
