Simply because almost whole game depends on the CPU. If you have lots of ram you can play big maps, if you have good graphic card you can turn on nice smokes, effects and AA. When it come out it didnt even have a direct x, yeah lots of things changed but deep down its still the same.

(I play on 2Ghz dual core, 2.5gigs ram and integrated GM450 (like GeForce 2 maybe ) graphic card though)
