To me, it looks like you did not install EnjoyR patch for BOE, or it was not installed correctly. If you install correctly EnjoyR patch for BOE, you should have both of your issues fixed, i.e. the game should no longer quit back to the main menu after you attempt to start a campaign, and your USAAF ranks should be in English.

So I suggest you download latest version (4.9) of EnjoyR patch for BOE, and install both PatchA and PatchB included, making sure the installation path to your game's main folder is correct. Also reinstall the DGen folder of my campaigns on top of it afterwards (overwrite existing files if necessary).
