Aa-guns realism

In WWII combat aircaft losses broke down more or less like this. For every 1 aircraft lost to enemy action at least 1 was lost in non combat accidents. For every 1 aircraft lost to enemy aircraft fire, 4 were lost to enemy ground fire of all types.

Ground fire at lower levels was obviosuly far more intense since their were more barrels firing and using the big sky theory you were more likely to run into one of those rounds if there were more of them coming up at you.

Real flak was deadly but obviously damaged far more than it destroyed outright. Many planes were damaged and eventually lost because they could not maintain altitude or ran out of fuel due to loss rates. Because of the scope of IL2 its less likely to lose the C due to damage since the return home is 5 minutes in many cases.

Proximity fuses are a whole different animal however. They changethe whole gae entirely. Look at the effetiveness of the 90mm FLak batteries in England targeting the V1's... usually with th combination of radar guidance and prox fuses they were brought down with 2 salvoes from 4 guns.. very effective fire..

I think the biggest gunner issuein IL2is the AI crew gunners not the flak Smile
