Monitor dying?

This is the only time it happens. All other programs like Gimp or PSP are OK.
I can usually tell when it's going to happen because the desktop icons will have little lines around them.

This used to happen occasionally but now it's to the point where I can't even load IL2 without this happening. Before, I could restart and it'd fix but now it's much worse.

I am now using a smaller DELL monitor (comp is DELL too) and all is OK with it. Would rather have the larger SONY though.
Is my monitor dying?
Or is there a way to fix it?

Hmm...sounds fishy. Since you can use the DELL monitor ok I doubt the Jimi Hendrix graphics is due to your graphics card failing.

Had a problem with my 3 year old Samsung SyncMaster 204b, backlight would flicker for several minutes before stabilizing when I switched it on. It finally petered out after about a year. Didn't want to discard it so I took it apart, replaced the bulging electrolyte capacitors in the power supply (bulging is a sign of heat damage) - voila! good as new.

I'd suspect a power supply issue in your case too, SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supplies) can be finicky and wear out relatively fast (due to the manufacturers using subspeced components in the high frequency areas).

Hope this helps....
