We have one of the Planes of Fame Air Museums relatively close by, we got to their annual Airshow every year, and it's just amazing to hear those old war birds pass by, low and fast. This year, they had the 3 Tiger Cats, then the usual list of 7 P-51s, 2 P-40s, they 2 P-38s including Glacier Gal. This year, the Air force brought along a C-17, last year it was 2 A-10s. It truly is the best show i have ever seen
I've gone every year since 1998 except 2001 and this year, which is still coming. Starting a new job and I'm not going to be able to get away.
It is an incredible experiance. They are coming close to 500mph and running no lower than 50-100 feet off the ground. Being able to go through the pits and look at all the planes and engines is amazing.
And as for the Axis aircraft, I thought there was a ME-109 or a FW-190 racing in the early to mid 60's, but I can find any reference of it. Howard Hughes did aquire a ME-262 that was used for photo recon, and wanted to race against the USAF F-80's but "This was officially frowned apon".
