Same problem now with the newer DELL monitor. Must be graphics issue instead.
With the DELL it doesn't happen all the time but it's like it needs to warm up for a while before everything is OK. And sometimes a restart will fix things but only after it seems the computer has warmed up. Kinda strange.
A while back I bumped up my AGP Radeon 9800 to "best quality" instead of " performance" and I believe this is when things started to go bad.
A couple days ago I reverted back to "best performance" instead of quality and that helped with the DELL but not with the SONY. Sometimes there is no problem at all but it happens most of the time.
Any thoughts.?
