Could be done with a new forest texture which should have a *.tree.tga file with lot of autogenerated trees (your favourite)
then you need to link this tga into an unused texture slot in the maps load ini file. Then you need to open the map_T.tga which influences the texture placement and replace the forrest color value with your new one. There are photoshop swatches for the correct color values to be used somewhere in the download section.
