Your problem is due to a Windows Update for which there is a new Winzip update as well to fix it, but the others are correct. There are programs that work just as well if not better than Winzip.

I for one, prefer 7ZIP. I opens all sorts of compresses files. Not just RAR, ZIP, ACE or 7Z files.
