Not as a general rule, no. The basic rule for the ZUTI DSMod is that you must run the same DSMod version as the server. If you try to connect to a server with a different version of DSMod, the error message you get will say something like "server runs different version of the game 4.0x + DSMod v 0.x" If the server does not run ANY DSMod, then yes, disable it and connect.
For CRT=2, the server will check all the mods you have (subject to some exceptions) and kick you if there is a discrepancy, with an error message something like "Timeout:1 CRT=2 Fail". To fix this, you need to make sure you have enabled all the same mods as the server...nor more...no less.
