Well, I don't think going supersonic is impossible in the current IL2 engine. "How is that?", you ask. Well, in a word, SABRE. PeterD said it would do over Mach 1 and while flying with a bunch of guys who do a lot of missions in the KTO map, I can say I have routinely taken the F-86 passed the sound barrier. So I guess to say the game engine can't do it somewhat of a misstatement, because it is being done.

When I first started here, I too said many of the same things, but people continued to build acft anyway that pushed the limit of the game engine. Now we have the F-86 and the MiG-15.

I say, let them try. Push this puppy. Let's see just what she's capable of. So far the only thing not codeled for supersonic flight is the sonic boom and shockwave. We of course, do not know if doing Mach 2 is possble for the engine, but let's find out.

Supersonic is not just a number. No one said the Il-2 engine would cause any aircraft that passes the threshold to instantly explode. Simply, flight model for supersonic speeds is totally unrealistic. I'd be very surprised if the Sabre or MiG behave at all realistically in this sim approaching or passing the speed of sound.
