Iwo Jima repainted...now with "test mission"
#33

Redko, I think it looks really good as a current Iwo Jima.

But one thought about this map, mate: in 1945, during the battle this small island was bombed so heavily and densely, that the thin layer of ground and vegetation that was before as it is now after 60 years of peace, was removed showing the dark volcanic ground underneath in many places, the same that is present on the island's beaches. Not to talk about the burnt vegetation.

This is depicted in Flags of our Fathers and in the late scenes of Letters from Iwo Jima, in my opinion Clint Eastwood gave a correct dark burnt atmosphere to the films. And obviously the sand of the beaches was as dark as now. Also the ground of the airstrips, free from grass, would be dark I think.

Is just a thought, mate Smile
