Solution was found in the nHancer feature of making an executable file with a file path from the file in that particular IL-2 folder to the nHancer profile. Now I am seeing good FPS, including other performances, and fantastic appearance. Everthing in IL-2 is at its max as far as appearance with the exception of perfect water which lowers my FPS too much. I run DirectX online for performance, usually. For offline I mostly use OpenGL. I actually have four profiles in nHancer that I can start manually. I choose one and activate it manually just before I start IL-2. Some features in nHancer can only be utilized if the profile is activated manually. At least one of them requires an executable file Profile with file path. Here is where many guys miss it. I hope this helps.
P.S. I am using only an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M in my HP Notebook PC with 3GB RAM. I have most of my settings at max or beyond (nHancer  ). Visual quality is set at VERY HIGH. Interesting that I get waves with caps on water=2 in
DirectX but no show with "Perfect Water" =3 in OpenGL. What gives? May be that the perfect water ain't so perfect. LOL
What do you mean by "making an executable file with a file path from the file in that particular IL-2 folder to the nHancer profile"? Do you mean adding the executable to the profile list? Of course I've done that, you have to for automatic profiling to work. And none of the options I use for IL2 require manual activation of the profile, so there's nothing missed there.
