It is actually historical. The USN painted their CV's a medium blue to help them blend into the ocean. It made them harder targets for Vals and Judys.
This may be true, but there were only two Lexington Class Carriers built. USS Lexington CV2 and USS Saratoga CV3. I don't know what Oleg's thinking was when he made the Generic Carrier a Lexington Class since both are already represented in the game. Kind of a strange choice of ship class.
CV2 USS Lexington. This is the version prior to April 1942 with the 8" guns. In April 1942 these were removed and replaced with quad 1" "Chicago Piano" gun batteries for better AA and was the configuration she had when sunk at Coral Sea.
CV3 USS Saratoga. This is the version after a refit and repair in Bremerton Washington after being torpedoed. Her 8" guns were removed and replaced by 5" twin dual purpose gun turrets for improved AA defense which had become the standard for all USN Fleet Carriers. I can't remember if the flight deck was revised to make it more of a rectangle shape near the bow.
Generic Carrier is just a no markings version of the USS Saratoga already in the game. It would have been better to make this carrier a generic Essex Class or make it one of the Yorktown Class preferably USS Enerprise since she survived the war.
Anyhow my $0.02 worth.
