You change templates to rgb mode for editing then back to indexed mode and then when you hit "save as" it will give you a defualt name like photo01.psd. You just make sure to name it photo01.bmp. You have to manually type "B" "M" "P" (bitmap) at the end of the name.
when you switched from rgb back to indexed is when gimp changes it from like 25mb (or however large the file was) to 3mb. And then when you change it to .bmp form it goes down to 1mb. Just click yes when it asks to inport or export image.(it asks when you manually change the name, saying .bmp file cant handle transparent layers)
I dont use bright and have never had to. Some ppl like it. But like I said, gimp will convert images. You just need to use rgb mode for editing then switch back to indexed for saving. Then remember to change the format in the name. ete..bmp, .psd,...
Yeh I do all that but what I wanted to know was is 255 indexed colour the best quality you can have? since I'm using so many colour it tends to pixelate it a lot when I convert it to indexed colours from RGB and I was wondering if this was the best/only way it could be done. =/
I still use GIMPs conversion because MyBright doesn't work for me.
