When I asked my dad how was Vietnam. Then he told me this.
My dad's life was saved by one of these while he was stationed in Nam.. His helicopter base came under heavy mortar fire, and one slammed into this bunk. But he was hiding underneath, somehow the mortar didn't hurt him or anyone around him (He admitted it scared the shit out of him.) The mortar fire was so intense that the base couldn't scramble Huey Gunships (He tried to start his Huey-Slick but another mortar landed next to a fuel truck and no one volunteered to fuel him.), so they radioed in 2 x AC-47's which dropped enough flares to turn night into day /orbited unloaded volleys of lead /demolished the forest all the way around the base, and thats when the mortar attack ceased, and he went back to sleep.
