The navalized P-51 was considered for a very specific mission in very specific circumstances, and pretty much only for its outstanding range capability.
Not a thing, and I realize that the Navy wasn't trying to replace the Hellcat or Corsair. Nor was I advocating that. I just think that if they were going to put an USAAF plane aboard ship, the Jug would have been a better choice. I don't understand your comment about it being hard to get off the deck. They flew off jeep carriers to strike Okinawa I believe. The catapult would get it off easily. The range would have been a problem though. It's just intriguing to think about flying a Jug around the boat! :wink:
