Stargazer, don't despair! The Mods folder has a minus to disable it so that you can have the option to just use the JGSME mods (or only those ones you want) AND use your "old" mods. Just re-enable the "Mods" folder (right click on the name and "rename" it by just removing the minus sign)...good to go! Now you can add all the mods you want, just like the old days. The mods in the mod folder are loaded first, and in alpha order, so there should be no conflict with those you "turned on" in the JGSME installer/initiator...whatever you call it. The file structure in the Mods folder is different than the JSGME one...Mods folder does away with a "Files" folder. Check out both the SAS and UltraPack forums for all the help you'll need.
Good luck!

P.S. Try the Distant Sound Mod by Redbat. It's really, really good and just make a new folder, call it what you like, say "DSM", drop in the sample and preset folders only in that new folder (he put extra files in the mod that turned out not to be needed), and drop the new folder in your now-activated Mods folder, and voila good to go. Read up on it more in the SAS forum "Soundz" thread. I'd also suggest Tiger's Sound Mod as a possibility, but that can get hairy and it sounds as if you have enough on your plate!
