It's indeed my smokespiral mod. Philip.ed did the Intermittent smoke trail mod.
And it's only for 20mm cannons that are used on Axis units because they have the sole feature of having a spiral (2D) smoke trail in IL2.
It replaces that ugly 2D trail.
In fact - almost every gun that fires a bullet or shell has such a spiral - but the smoketrail does'nt show it all the time under every condition.
Most of the time it's also too small to show or too light to be visible. But that is just technobabble.
Barrel rifling, propellant mix and environmental conditions during firing is what makes a smoketrail (spiraled) show up.
(@Plumps) so yes, smoketrails don't always show up.
Still - a great deal of historical (luftwaffe) footage shows this very specific spiraled smoketrail effect (see my mod release video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1xYiehWEqI ), so that is the reason I recreated this effect within the limits of the IL2 game engine.
The limits being:
- smoketrail is projected only on every tracer round fired in IL2
- IL2 engine is not good at large particle amounts - so this effect can cause weird graphical effects.
