I gave this a try and it worked great!

Can the camera be altered in defferent ways? I've noticed in other videos I have seen were it is filming a plane but the plane is not locked to the movement of the camera. Would anyone know how this is done?

Below is the most basic of free floating camera moves that I use and its eazy to do , the next step is to use what I would call a fifth aircraft such as the cameraplane , however for action scenes I often use an AC of similar performance to the ones in the scene and by cutting the Prs to loose the engine noise and then adding pats camera mod ,i now have a nice fast camera plane that can keep up with anything.
These are two examples of what amounts to many , many options you have with filming in il2 , best thing to do is experiment and like Ibis said try the movie makers forum at ubi , I used to live there although its been a bit quite of late.
