Amharic: These are points which are good to notice. This shows that you pay attention to details and very commendable.
1) Lighting, or enviremental lighting, will be very adjustable by the user in Storm of War, as it is in the IL-2 Hardware Setup that you have. The same is true for objects lighting and perhaps a few other things. Oleg should allow more control of lighting such as separate sky, water, land, air objects, water objects, and ground objects - all independantly adjustable. This might be requesting too much, but if possible then it would make lighting issues much more satisfying for the agressive user.
2) Propeller visibility will change from almost invisible to very obvious. This is the case in real life. However, I cannot think of a logical explanation for the props being completely invisible in some viewpoints, except that perhaps some planes were shown without visible propellers.
3) In real life, the effects of bullet hits would have a random occurance. This is what we expect to see. For example, a bullet hits a wing but travels through it, but another bullet hits a spar, making a small flash. A third bullet hits a fuel line and you see flash, metal fragments and fuel spray. And so forth, and so on...
4) Mod skinners will fix the areoplane skins in fairly quick fashion. I predict a flood of plane skins shortly after Storm of War is released. What an exciting time that will be! Modders are going to be sucked into this thing at that time. Very wise decision by Oleg to co-operate in the basic modding areas.
5) Yes, Work IN Progress is right. Some of these things can not be fully rendered until NVIDIA releases a few bug free graphics cards in the next product line with DirectX 11 and next generation PhysX technology over the coming months. Objective persons know that Oleg is waiting for these cards to reveal the final rendering stage of graphics for Storm of War. The current graphics cards which his team is using in these videos will not render all the graphics features that the next line of NVIDIA cards will later in 2010.
The remaining issues will all be handled eventually. We are talking about many tens of thousands of labor hours for Oleg's Team. For the modders, this will eventually be hundreds of thousands or more hours of labor. Could we, combined, reach 1,000,000 labor hours years from now with Storm of War? This seems plausibe to me for ten years from now. This is an average of 100,000 labor hours total per year for Oleg's Team and the modders. It is possible.
100 total creators multiplied times 1000 labor hours per year equals 100,000 labor hours per year total-this is very feasible.
100 creators x 1000 hours per creator per year = 100,000 labor hours
100,000 labor hours per year multiplied times 10 years = 1,000,000 labor hours total ( 1 million! )
Storm of War will have a much larger starting base of clients than IL-2 when it was released. IL-2 client base increased, and most IL-2 users will eventually aquire Storm of War in coming years. Another reason for the increase in Storm of War users is because more persons have computers which can run it and many more people are connected to the InterNet now than when IL-2 was first released. Added to this is the fact that 1C: Maddox Games company is much more knowledgeable about marketing with more industry contacts. Storm of War will be launched from a much larger marketing base than IL-2 and will have much more potential for bigger growth than IL-2 for the above reasons.
My point is that we are still near the beginning of this Storm of War Epoch. I have suggested many times to Oleg in websites that he integrate with the modding society ( society is a group of communities ) more in the future. His development company could save much investment money and labor hours by merely providing the basics in Storm of War and approve of modders doing things such as their own skins, sounds, map creation, and a few other things. Perhaps this YouTube video is a bit of circumstantial evidence toward his approval for that. This seems to be the case to me, but we will see in a few months what the extent of it is for us.
My best advice to Oleg Maddox is to let the modders do most of the work and actually incorporate the best modding creations into future Storm of War releases. This way, modders have more fun seeing their creations included in Storm of War releases, or inspired to try harder to reach the quality level to have their creations integrated into the next releases in the series. The motivation to create fantastic mods would be tremendous! The cost per average creation would be much lower-average of Maddox Team's investment and free mods creations.
If integration with the modding society and some first person controlled objects were included, then this would truely become a revolution in the gaming and simulation industry. This would attract both flyers and non-flyers into a combat simulation worthy of the size of actual World War Two battles. Of course, the option to be in missions with only pilots would be on the table and the reverse would also be true. This would increase sales of Storm of War. More sales causes more money to be available for Research and Development, which is good for everybody.
The technologies exist to make such fantasies come true. Prudence and will power can make it happen.
