Hi,
My humble opinion is to join a mature group of pilots in a squadron who like to have fun with it. Use the mod pack which they use. I feel that this is the best that an online pilot can get: Join a squadron. You would meet new friends and get all the one on one help that you need.
Many online squadrons use TeamSpeak3 to communicate by voice through their computers to one another, even during combat like a cockpit radio.
IL-2 online squadrons are probably numbered in the hundreds, if not thousands, with thousands of pilots total.
The variety of squadrons is amazing with them flying in HyperLobby, private missions, and private campaigns against and with several other squadrons.
Many online IL-2 squadrons have their own website.
Here is the Community Generated Squadron List which is in the process of being reconstructed:

You could send a Private Message to Billfish and ask her to recommend a squadron which suits you.
