Le Bearn apparait tres semblable a un CVE du jeu. /In this picture the Bearn (only french WWII carrier) looks much like an "in game" CVE ship.
Les explications ici sont pour nos amis anglais, pour qu'ils s'y comprennent un peu mieux...sur l'aeronavale francaise.
At the beginning of WW2, the Bearn is seen as unable to fulfill its mission because it is too slow, and is used as training/then transport ship.
The embarked aircraft's (Vought V.156F, Loire-Nieuport LN.401/411) are therefore made land-based and are engaged against the German ground troops in May-June 1940.
The B5N2 has often been used to represent V.156F; numerous skins for these are available.
The LN.401 or 411 were dive bombers looking much like the Ju 87 with retractable gear and single small cockpit, W/O the big nose radiator.
( only one skin was made... to my knowledge).
Note that the majority of Aeronavale were land-based aircraft's to start with, and seaplanes... This includes their fighters, torpedo planes, patrol bombers,
trainers and liaison (transports)... The french had sea-bases all around the world, Martinique, Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, Senegal , Madagascar, Indonesia
and Tahiti, just to name a few, not counting their home Atlantic plus Mediterranean coastlines, and Corsica.
So they needed lot of naval airplanes, but not as much places to use them.
