If I have some time I'll try to write a tutorial it's makes life easier and it's also fun creating the village and town templates 8)
Not sure maybe there is one already somewhere here or other sites?

The "problem" IMO is that using autopop is ver hard, lots of mapmakers including me can't make it work, so you're tip make sense but unfortunately we don't know how to use autopop
