Use a H/D and Motherboard that has S.M.A.R.T enabled. This will help some.
Turn off write behind caching on the H/D so that Windows won't use delayed writes. This will force the system to finish what it is doing before the next task.
Unfortunately, this is going to result in a performance hit, but if you are continually having problems with power outages, crashes etc, it may be a viable option for you.
Let me know if you require more assistance with this and we'll look up your MB & H/D combo.
There may be something else we can do to fix this without sacrificing performance.
