I've just carried out three simple two-player coop trials with He-111 -
(A) two aircraft available; player (1) chose nose-gunner station in front aircraft, player (2) chose pilot seat in rear aircraft
(B) two aircraft linked by 'Set Target' (like glider and tug or bomber and fighter escort); player (1) chose pilot (ready for change to bombadier) in front aircraft, player (2) chose pilot position in rear aircraft
© one aircraft with accompanying AI aircraft; player (1) chose pilot position (ready for change to bombadier) in front aircraft, player (2) chose pilot seat in rear aircraft
The idea was to establish a link between the bombadier in front aircraft who would accurately guide the pilot in rear aircraft. The pretence (its all pretend anyway) being that both players are in the same aircraft.
Of course, none of the trials worked as hoped.
(A) can't change from nose-gunner to bombadier, only from pilot to bombadier
(B) aircraft aren't linked once a pilot hops aboard the second aircraft
© similarly, the rear AI aircraft no longer follows the lead aircraft once it has a pilot aboard
