It's still wrong but the japanese would always and I mean always make it a point to kill our pilots hanging in their chutes every single side in this war had some do it and its still wrong but the US really looked down upon it only a few fighter groups did not and the English you never really heard of any incidents because they also looked down heavily upon this act but I'm sure there are some incidents and the Russians were like the Japanese making it a point to shoot German pilots in their chutes and the Germans did it alot but not as bad as the Japanese the Russians and the Polish those three were the very worst I know this is hypocritical to say but our pilots shooting the japs in their chutes I'm fine with they attacked pearl harbor because we put a trade embargo upon them and they got pissed that among other reasons and then the kamikaze's they were suicidal so I think with how they thought back then they would probably see it as an honor to be blasted away rather then be stuck to rot in pow camps
